Algebraic Expressions
An Algebraic Expression's Terms
The term of an algebraic expression refers to the parts of an algebraic expression that are split by a minus or plus sign. The components of an algebraic equation are not separated by the multiplication or division signs.
Algebraic Expressions of Various Types
Algebraic expressions may be divtopicIded into five categories. These are some of them:
Monomial
Binomial
Trinomial
Polynomial
Multinomial
However, we'll focus on the first four kinds of algebraic expressions in this article.
1. Monomial
An algebraic expression with just one non-zero term is called a monomial. A monomial expression is a kind of expression that has a single variable. A monomial is an expression with just one term, such as 3xy. Variables, numbers, and whole numbers that are multiplied together are called monomials. Any number, such as the number 5 or the number 2,700, may be a monomial by itself.
Different examples of monomial
In one variable, a can be constopicIdered as a monomial.
A monomial with two variables, a and b, is a 4ab^3. Here symbol “^” means power of b or b raise to 3.
The monomial 6(a^3)b has two variables, a and b.
With two variables p and q, -7pq is a monomial.
The monomial 5(b^4)c has two variables b and c.
The monomial 6px/y has three variables: p, x, and y.
How is monomial is different from polynomial?
An expression with just one word is referred to as a monomial. A polynomial, on the other hand, is an equation that has at least one algebraic term but does not include any evtopicIdence of variable division or variables with fractional exponents.
2. Binomial
Definition of binomial expression: When two algebraic terms are added or subtracted, we get a binomial algebraic expression.
An algebraic expression with two non-zero terms is called a binomial.
Different examples of Binomial
Binomial expressions can be found in the following examples:
A binomial with two variables x and y, equals x^3 + 6y.
The binomial (a^3) – 7b has two variables, a and b.
The binomial -16x – y has two variables, x and y.
The binomial a + b has two variables, a and c.
The binomial (p^3)/2 + q/3 has two variables, p and q.
The binomial (a^2)(n^2) + 1/9 has two variables, a and b.
3. Trinomial
An algebraic expression with three non-zero algebraic terms is called a trinomial.
Different examples of Trinomial
Trinomial expressions can be found in the following examples:
The binomial a + b + c has two variables, a, b, and c.
7(a^2) + 8a + 8 is a trinomial in one variables a.
{pq + p + (q^2)} is a trinomial in two variables p and q.
{-9a + (b^3) – (a^2)(b^2)} is a trinomial in two variables a and b.
8xyz – 6xy + 10xz is a trinomial in three variables x, y, and c.
4. Polynomial
An algebraic expression with one, two, or more terms is called a polynomial.
