About Amoeba

Known as a single cell, Amoeba is a microscopic or a unicellular organism that cannot be seen with the naked eye. It is most commonly found in lakes, slow-moving rivers, and ponds.

Amoeba contains a double-layered cell membrane; a round nucleus (dense); a nucleolus; and two types of vacuoles: a feeding vacuole and a contractile vacuole.

It is responsible for all biological functions, including digestion, breathing, movement, and reproduction. Amoeba consumes food that is dissolved in water, and food digestion occurs in the food vacuole. They are mostly predators of micro plants and animals.

It lacks a defined form and its shape is continually changing. Amoeba form varies due to its ability to gutopicIde its cytoplasm in whichever direction it wishes. Amoeba develops extensions resembling finger-like projections called pseudopodia or fake feet.
